Splendid for Teaching Non-Fiction Text Features,
I bought a set of these to include in a unit on non-fiction text features for my Kindergarten/First Grade class. This book is perfect for numerous reasons. It is written at a level where early readers can do a lot of the reading themselves and use their decoding strategies to fruitfully problem solve unfamiliar words. Subject matter captivated their attention and helped underscore importance/use of many of the features we have discussed, i.e. contents page, photos, captions, charts, map, lexicon, index. Just wish it showed surpass examples of marks, but that would make this book beyond perfect. Did I mention that I like this book?

|Excellent book for all ages.,
I bought this book for my 2 year ancient son. It has awesome photos, which you can always expect from National Geographic, and splendid information. I must admit that even as introducing this book to my son, I realized just how small I really know in this area the animal kingdom. It’s a splendid book for kids and adults too!

Book includes 128 full color pages
All of the words/sentences are in large print
Headings are colorful and bold
Words are larger words, more of a late K or early 1st grade reader
Very nice quality
I have a small animal lover, and this was a perfect book for him. He is 4, and just learning to read. I was worried that there wouldn’t be that many pictures, or that it wouldn’t be very long, but this is an brilliant book! I was glad for all the previous reviews. This book was just as I hoped. Educational, wonderful photos, very excellent quality, and long. Lots of time spent by my son looking owing to this book, he can’t quite read the words yet…a few more months.
